The Wetaskiwin Composite High School Sabres are down a player after two-way starter Gavin House suffered a broken collarbone in exhibition play against the Drumheller Titans Friday night.

“The prognosis is pretty good,” said Coach Kevin Gibson, “but when these things happen it impacts the team — the players and the coaches.”

House was injured in the tough battle between the Sabres and Titans, which saw the visitors take the game 19-6.

“It was a good, physical football game and our kids continued to fight hard through all of it,” said Gibson.

While Drumheller’s school population is a little smaller than WCHS they are always a top team, said Gibson.

Following the game, Gibson said they have a number of things to work on to get ready for their next match against Camrose.

Another home game, the team takes the field Friday at 7:30 p.m.
